Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the UK’s largest, has selected Nervecentre’s next-generation EPR to drive forward its digital capabilities and improve patient care in what the company called a transformative deal.

NUH selected Nervecentre after a competitive procurement process on the Health Systems Support (HSS) Framework Agreement.

The deal builds on a long-standing partnership between NUH and Nervecentre, placing Nervecentre at the heart of the trust’s digital transformation strategy.

Nottingham is the fourth trust in the East Midlands to commit to Nervecentre’s EPR in just over three months. In December, Northampton General Hospital said it had chosen Nervecentre as its EPR supplier.

The announcement followed news in November that heels of the news that the two acute NHS trusts in Derbyshire – University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Chesterfield Royal Hospital had selected the company to supply their joint EPR. Neighbouring University Hospitals Leicester is already the main development partner for Nervecentre’s next-generation EPR system.

Nervecentre has a proven track record at NUH and has been a trusted partner since 2010, the company said. In June, NUH went live with Nervecentre’s electronic prescribing and medical administration solution.

Under the new contract, the trust will consolidate existing paper-based and digital systems into a single integrated EPR where everything is together in one place. Nervecentre will become the nucleus of the trust’s single, connected digital system – aligning with the NUH digital strategy to bring improvements, integration and new ways of working.

“Nervecentre’s EPR is an important part of our strategy,” says NUH CEO Anthony May. “It’s about giving our teams the digital tools they need to deliver the best possible care.”

Andy Callow, chief digital information officer at NUH, says: “After a rigorous clinical and financial evaluation, we have chosen Nervecentre as our new integrated EPR. It will play a pivotal role in achieving our digital vision to deliver outstanding digital experiences to our staff, patients and the public we serve.

“As a result, we will reduce the number of digital systems in place, moving from many complex, poorly connected systems to an intuitive solution that allows clinicians to efficiently review and enter patient information in real-time at the patient’s bedside.”

“NUH is a true innovator,” added Paul Volkaerts, Nervecentre CEO. “They lead the way using real-time data to make care safer and more efficient. Their ability to embrace and exploit the latest technologies to their fullest extent is pioneering. We’re proud to be a part of their journey to revolutionise patient care.”
