The Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum‘s candidature on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party for the 2024 parliamentary elections has been confirmed.

The MP, who's seeking a third term in parliament was selected by popular acclamation by delegates of the constituency.

In the Ashanti region, five parliamentary aspirants are running unopposed in the NPP parliamentary primaries.

In accordance with Article 7(31) of the New Patriotic Party’s constitution, one thousand and twenty-seven delegates in the Bosomtwe constituency gathered with a single voice of affirmation to support Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The process of popular acclaimation is the Electoral Commission’s constitutional means of confirming the unopposed aspiring Parliamentary Candidate, as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the December election.

Dr Yaw Adutwum, in his acceptance speech, thanked delegates for reposing their confidence in him.

He vowed to tackle critical challenges affecting the area.

“I mention Bosomtwe everywhere I go, because I was an MP before a minister. I want us together to lift the name of our constituency. I believe I have achieved enough for this constituency. And I am grateful for your trust again.

“Just like the many schools that have been established, and the bad roads of Esereso have been tarred, it is the same way other areas in need will get their share,” he said.

Ashanti Regional NPP Secretary, Kwame Adom Appiah, said the party has learned lessons from the 2020 election, and is on course to rectifying them to improve their chances.

“Some people were denied from contesting in 2020 and we have learned those lessons. This year, the evidence is there. No one was prevented. We have made the grounds fair and equal for everyone.

“It is not about who wins the primaries now. The bigger victory is the December election, and we are prepared for the bigger election,” he said.

The party’s primaries for constituencies with incumbent NPP MPs are expected to be held on 27th January 2024.
