Rivers United forward Nyima Nwagua is already in Saudi Arabia to finalise his move to Saudi Arabia’s second-division side, Al Sadd FC, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nwagua last played for the 2022 Nigeria Premier Football League champions, and he was appointed captain of the team ahead of last season.

He joins Al Sadd as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Pride of Rivers, being among the 13 players whose contracts with the Port Harcourt side expired at the end of last season.

The 31-year-old, who was pictured at the King Khalid International Airport, Saudi Arabia, in the company of the club’s first team supervisor, Mohannad Aldousery, has reportedly signed a one-year deal.

Nwagua has also played for Lobi Stars and Kano Pillars in the Nigerian topflight, scoring 49 goals and three assists in 234 games across all domestic and continental competitions for all the clubs.

He was part of the Kano Pillars team that dramatically lost the 2018 Federation Cup title to Enugu Rangers before winning the title in 2019.

He also won the NPFL with Rivers United in 2022 after joining them in the summer of 2021.

His new club, Al Sadd, are in Group B of the 32-team Saudi second division, and they will play against Al-Washm in their first game of the season on September 14.
