Oba Femi will defend the NXT Championship at WWE NXT Vengeance Day.

On the January 28th episode of WWE NXT, Grayson Waller and Austin Theory hosted The Grayson Waller Effect. NXT Champion Oba Femi was their special guest. Theory and Waller took shots at Femi, noting that plenty of NXT stars flamed out when they moved to the main roster. Femi fired back by saying that he had already done more than the duo in NXT. He then challenged them to face him at WWE NXT Vengeance Day.

Trick Williams came out and brawled with Theory and Waller. Femi then powerbombed Williams. Backstage, NXT General Manager Ava told Femi that he would defend the title against Waller and Theory at WWE NXT Vengeance Day on February 15th.

Oba Femi On Being The NXT Champion

Femi recently discussed having an obligation to NXT during an appearance on Busted Open Radio, as he was asked about dream matches.

“As far as dream matches go, I’ve said this on record before—I’d love to wrestle Gunther, John Cena, and Randy Orton,” Oba Femi said. “Those guys are incredible. But the fact that I’m carrying this [the NXT Championship] on my shoulder right now means I have an obligation to NXT. I’m carrying the brand, and the person who carries the brand should carry the brand.” Oba Femi said.

“As much as I’d love to go up there and have those matches, my focus is on NXT right now. I want to elevate NXT to the level where it’s seen as a third brand—not just developmental. Even though technically it is and will continue to be, I believe the caliber of talent here in NXT is strong enough to compete with the main roster itself.”

“With me at the forefront, it feels perfect—the ruler, the destroyer, the one leading the charge. This is my responsibility now.”
