NXT Champion Oba Femi isn’t afraid to call out his “Uncle Dwayne” after The Rock stole the spotlight during Femi’s biggest career moment at New Year’s Evil.
Femi made history on the special episode, defeating Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a triple threat match to claim the NXT Championship. However, instead of the night ending with Femi celebrating his monumental win, it was The Rock who closed the show, leaving the 26-year-old star feeling overshadowed.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Femi addressed the situation with humor but didn’t hold back on how he’d handle it next time. “At the moment the time was being stolen from me, I wasn’t even aware it was being stolen from me,”
Femi said. “Maybe if I knew, I would have gone up to him and been like, ‘Hey, Uncle Dwayne, what are you doing?’ I’ll let it slide this time. But the next time Uncle Dwayne comes in and steals time from me, there’s going to be problems.”
The hosts also asked Femi about the controversial ending to his title match, where Eddy Thorpe struck Trick Williams with a chair before Femi secured the win with a powerbomb. When questioned about offering Williams a rematch, Femi was clear: “I wanted the title match to be a singles bout. It was Trick who suggested the triple threat, so now he needs to go back in the line and earn his opportunity.”
