The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Sunday that the state would witness the delivery of more infrastructure projects in 2025, including the construction of the Asaba International Market to enhance the state capital’s appearance.
Speaking at the site of the proposed market, Governor Oborevwori explained that he had decided to visit some ongoing projects to assess their progress personally.
The governor pledged to increase project inspections and inaugurations in the new year, saying, “We won’t just sit in the office and approve projects; we need to visit these sites to see how they are progressing.
“After today’s service, I decided to pay an unscheduled visit to the Asaba International Market. This month, we will carry out the groundbreaking ceremony. However, we have already authorised the contractors to begin construction.
“We will formally carry out the groundbreaking before the end of this month. This project is part of our efforts to give the capital territory a facelift. We are working around the city to ensure it is clean and well-developed.”
Governor Oborevwori noted that the site used to house the Abraka Market, which had become a haven for criminals before the state government relocated the market to Oko.
He further revealed that the state government had partnered with Efab Properties Limited to develop the new market.
“The state government is providing the land and will receive 20 per cent of the revenue. Efab Properties Limited will handle the construction and allocation. It’s a partnership we strongly encourage,” he stated.
On road infrastructure, the governor said many roads in the state capital were due for repairs and overlay due to age.
“Road maintenance is essential. In the Western world, roads are regularly maintained. We will continue to repair old roads, construct new ones, and give the Asaba Capital Territory a modern, fresh look,” Oborevwori added.
