The planned October 1 protest in Kano being organised by the Nigerian Patriotic Front Movement did not hold on Tuesday, following the alleged arrest of five officials of the NPFM.
The officials of NPFM had last week vowed to stage a peaceful protest against the current hardships being experienced by Nigerians.
However, following the arrest of the NPFM officials by the police, the protest could not hold.
Following the anticipated planned protest, many residents remained indoors while many business places, including some markets and shops, remained closed.
It was observed that armed security personnel deployed to various strategic places were still keeping vigil to ensure law and order in the ancient city.
It was also observed that a few vehicles were seen plying the major streets.
A cross-section of residents who spoke to PUNCH Online on the situation attributed the closure of some business premises to the experience where some hoodlums turned the EndBadGovernance protest into violence by destroying and looting government and private properties.
“As you know people have learnt a lesson during the last EndBadGovernance protest, hence the reason why many stayed indoors to avoid being caught unawares,” one of the residents said.
