The Newcastle United squad are off to Japan on Sunday, Eddie Howe naming this 29 man squad (see below).

After the 2-0 win at Hull City on Saturday, two friendlies to play on their trip.

Wednesday sees Urawa Red Diamonds host Newcastle United at the Saitama Stadium.

Followed by next Saturday, Yokohama F Marinos v Newcastle United at the National Stadium in Toyko.

The league season in Japan runs from February to December, so it should be a couple of good tests for Newcastle against two sides in the middle of their league season.

Following Saturday’s win at Hull City, Eddie Howe has been talking about flying off to Japan and has named his 29 man travelling squad:

“The trip will be based around the two games we have.

“Minimal training.

“The games take more prominence as you go deeper into pre-season.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how the team gels.

“Getting the international players back, a bigger group [to work with].

“Hopefully we will have two really good performances [in Japan] and then we really go into the final part [of pre-season preparations].

“Callum Wilson has had an injection in his back.

“Without going into too much detail on the injury, he had a bulge in his disc which needed treatment.

“So he has had that operation and he may miss the start of the season.

“Thankfully there are not too many games at the start of the season, so hopefully he won’t miss too many.”
