Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed exclusively to GiveMeSport that former Chelsea and Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso has been offered to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are looking to add more players to their squad even after making four prominent signings.

The Premier League giants have added Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to their squad but their transfer business is expected to continue.

They are looking to sign a new midfielder as well as a new defender, preferably a left-back after Luke Shaw suffered an injury setback.

The England international is expected to miss the start of the season and the Reds Devils are light in that position with their other left-back Tyrell Malacia out with fitness issues as well.

Man United have been given the opportunity to sign free agent Alonso, who is keen on a move back to the Premier League.

Romano said:

“Mario Hermoso would love to go to Manchester United. The same goes for Marcos Alonso, who has been offered to Manchester United in recent weeks, but there is nothing really concrete or advanced into it so far.

Marcos Alonso to Man United?

“I think Manchester United will take some time before deciding who the player they really want to cover that position is, and will save their budget, save their money, and put their effort into a deal for the midfield.

“They need a new midfielder, and the idea is to make it happen as the next step in the summer transfer window.”

The Red Devils could sign a new defender but they are currently prioritising a deal to sign a midfielder.

Man United are desperate to sign a new midfielder

They have been linked with a move for Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain but talks with the French club have not progressed well.

The Ligue 1 winners’ interest in Man United’s Jadon Sancho could work as a catalyst to make the deal happen though.

However, in case the Red Devils fail to secure the signature of Ugarte, they have identified Burnley midfielder Sander Berge as their alternative.

The Premier League giants have shown ambition in the transfer window this summer and they are ready to bring more fresh faces to the club in order to provide manager Erik ten Hag the best opportunity to challenge for silverware.
