A positive official availability and Newcastle United injury update.

This comes ahead of the two friendlies in Japan this week.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 31 July) it is Urawa Red Diamonds v Newcastle United, this is a local 7.30pm kick-off and 11.30am in the UK.

Then Saturday 3 August it is Yokohama F Marinos v Newcastle United, which is a 7pm local time kick-off, 11am in the UK.

Eddie Howe giving a positive injury and availability update on three senior players.

The Newcastle United Head Coach talking about what the situation is with Joe Willock who has been recovering from an injury picked up last season, whilst new signing Lloyd Kelly has taken no part in friendlies so far as he gets up to the necessary fitness levels. Sean Longstaff played in the behind-closed-doors friendly in Germany but stayed on Tyneside to train on Saturday, also not involved at Hull.

Eddie Howe:

“I think you can expect to see all three of them in [at least] one of the two games.

“Probably more [likely] the Saturday, the second game.

“But all three trained today and trained well, so they look in a good place.”

These are the 29 Newcastle United players who have flown to Japan:

Goalkeepers:

Pope, Ruddy, Dubravka, Vlachodimos, Gillespie

Defenders:

Ashby, Lewis, Livramento, Hall, Schar, Burn, Krafth, Kelly, Thompson, Heffernan

Midfield/Attack:

Tonali, Joelinton, Longstaff, Guimaraes, J.Miley, Barnes, J.Murphy, Almiron, Al.Harrison, Willock, Sanusi, Turner-Cooke, Parkinson, Isak

Tonali is training with the group in Japan but his suspension prevents him taking part in any of the public friendlies Newcastle United are playing pre-season.

A trio of young players didn’t make the trip to Japan and Eddie Howe explaining why:

“With GarangKuol we’re waiting to see, he has got a little bit of swelling in his knee.

“Joe White is nursing a sore back, so we’re assessing that one.

“Alex Murphy will be out for a couple of weeks with a hip problem.”
