Following his injury in the game against Villarreal on Sunday, FC Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has successfully undergone surgery the club have confirmed.

As announced earlier today, the 32-year-old has completely ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee and opted to not waste any time and undergo surgery immediately.

Now, Barça have announced that the surgical intervention has been completed successfully, although they have not provided any timeline for his recovery and return at this point.

“First-team player Marc-Andre ter Stegen underwent successful surgery this afternoon on a patellar tendon injury in his right knee, performed by Dr Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the FC Barcelona Medical Services at the Hospital de Barcelona.”

“He will be unavailable for selection until he has fully recovered.”

In the absence of an official recovery timeline, reports suggest that Ter Stegen could be out for a period of eight months, which would mean his season is effectively over.

However, the German international is understood to be determined to return at some point later in the season and help the team win trophies.

For now, the focus will be on his recovery and rehabilitation, considering that the patellar tendon issue has been bothering him for a number of years now.

We wish Marc a quick and healthy recovery!
