After signing Pau Victor earlier in the summer, FC Barcelona have now confirmed their second major transfer of the transfer window as Dani Olmo has joined the club from RB Leipzig.

Olmo, 26, is a former La Masia trainee and spent seven years on the club’s books before leaving for Dinamo Zagreb back in 2014.

Exactly a decade later, the Spanish attacking midfielder makes his way back to his boyhood club, signing a six-year contract that will run until the summer of 2030.

Olmo had been attracting strong interest from other clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester City but held firm on his desire to return to Barcelona.

After prolonged negotiations with RB Leipzig, the Catalans finally achieved a breakthrough on Tuesday, with the agreement being finalised for a fixed fee of €55 million plus another €7 million in variables, taking the overall cost of the operation to €62 million.

The 26-year-old UEFA Euro 2024 winner will officially be presented as a Barcelona player in front of fans and media on Monday.

Having not trained at all since the Euros got over, it is unlikely that Olmo will be able to feature in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Monaco that same day.

Shirt number confirmed

Along with the official announcement of the transfer, Dani Olmo’s shirt number at FC Barcelona has also been revealed.

Indeed, the Blaugrana’s latest addition will wear the No. 20 kit that has become vacant following Sergi Roberto’s contract expiry.
