After it emerged that Andreas Christensen had missed training on Friday, FC Barcelona have officially confirmed today that the defender is sidelined with an injury.

“The first-team player Andreas Christensen has tendinopathy in his left Achilles. His return to training will depend on how his condition progresses,” the statement from the club read.

Achilles tendinopathy is a painful condition that affects the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone.

Christensen had been dealing with the issue since last season and even played through discomfort at times, something that new manager Hansi Flick confirmed in his press conference on Friday.

Now, though, the defender is facing an extended period out on the sidelines due to the problem.

Reports on Friday suggested that Christensen could be out of action for two months, although Mundo Deportivo claimed that the defender would be sidelined for a month only.
