Barcelona’s first training sessions since Xavi Hernandez departed the club are beginning to take shape as the club has commenced its pre-season preparations.

Some players are still busy undertaking national team duties with the Spanish national team, while others are enjoying a brief vacation spell.

However, that has not stopped the club from carrying out training sessions with the available personnel, which mostly involves reserve team players and those who have cut short their vacation.

The coaching staff, led by Hansi Flick, has begun the process of reforming the team ahead of a gruelling season.

Details of Flick’s coaching staff

Earlier today, Barcelona confirmed the names and the roles of all of the staff members who will be working under new manager Hansi Flick.

There are currently eight individuals supporting Hansi Flick in the dugout: Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalovic, and Heiko Westermann are his main assistants.

Handling physical preparation are Julio Tous (head), Pepe Conde, Rafa Maldonado (field trainers), and German Fernandez (strength trainer). Jose Ramon de La Fuente continues as the goalkeeping coach from previous seasons.

It must, however, be noted that Thiago Alcantara is not officially listed as part of the coaching staff even though it has been widely reported he is close to being hired.

However, he is actively on the field daily and remains in regular contact with the players. In fact, pictures of him participating in training sessions were also leaked a few days ago.

The duration of Thiago’s tenure remains to be seen, but his bilingualism in Spanish and German as well as his familiarity with Flick and Barça is worth its weight in gold.

The club’s staff list does not encompass doctors, recovery specialists, kit personnel, press officers, and other essential roles integral to the day-to-day operations of Barça first team.

Soon, the coaching staff will have most of the first-team players at their disposal as the pre-season tour to the USA is within sight.
