Following his injury in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid on Sunday night, FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that Inigo Martinez has suffered a hamstring tear in his right leg.

Initial reports had suggested that the veteran defender could be out for more than a month but the club’s official prognosis is that the Spaniard is set to be sidelined for four weeks.

“Tests conducted this morning confirmed that I. Martínez has suffered a right hamstring tear. He is expected to be out for around 4 weeks,” the statement from the club read.

The 33-year-old has been excellent so far, forging a formidable centre-back pairing with young Pau Cubarsi.

Barcelona have Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia to fill in for the veteran defender, although Araujo has been linked with a January departure.
