FC Barcelona have issued an official statement confirming that Fermin Lopez has suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh, while also providing a timeline for his recovery.

Fermin, 21, suffered the injury on Tuesday while away with the Spanish Under-21 national team. The Spanish Federation announced the injury and even named another Barça starlet, Pablo Torre, as his replacement in the squad.

Now, Fermin has been examined by the club’s medical team, who have confirmed the exact nature of his injury and the possible time out of action.

“The tests carried out have shown that Fermín López has a muscle injury in the anterior rectus of the left thigh. The approximate downtime will be around three weeks,” the statement from the club read.

There were some hopes that Fermin might be ready to return right after the international break when Barcelona take on Girona on September 15.

However, it appears like the young attacking midfielder will be unavailable for a few more days after that.

After a successful summer, during which he won the UEFA Euro 2024 and the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, Fermin has not played regularly under Hansi Flick.

The La Masia graduate could have done with the rest during this international break but Spain decided to call him up for the Under-21 matches despite his double duty during the summer. And the youngster is now having to spend a spell on the sidelines.
