After a successful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with Spain, Barcelona midfielder Pedri returned to the club today, arriving at the Ciutat Esportiva training facilities in the morning.

The 21-year-old had suffered a knee injury during the tournament in Germany leading to him missing the semi-finals and the finals in which Spain prevailed to lift the trophy.

Having returned to the club today, Pedri was subjected to medical examinations by the Blaugrana medical staff in order to assess the nature and extent of his injury.

After conducting the requisite tests, Barcelona confirmed the nature of the midfielder’s injury by issuing a statement that read:

“The tests carried out this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have confirmed that the first-team player Pedri has an internal lateral sprain of his left knee. He is out and his evolution will mark his availability.”

Initially, it was suspected that Pedri could be sidelined for a period of six weeks, casting doubts over his availability for the start of the season.

However, reports earlier today suggest that the 21-year-old midfield gem could be out for only a month, meaning he could be ready in time to face Valencia in the La Liga opener in August.

Irrespective of that, Pedri will sit out the entire pre-season and will not play any part in the coming weeks under new manager Hansi Flick.
