It is official. 18 months after joining Barcelona, defender Julian Araujo has left the club to join AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.

“FC Barcelona and AFC Bournemouth have reached an agreement for the transfer of Julián Araujo to the English club for 10 million,” the statement from the club read.

“FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Araujo for his dedication and commitment and wishes him every success in the future.”

Araujo, 22, joined Barça from LA Galaxy in January last year but went without any competitive football for the first six months of his stint in Europe as his transfer was not authorised by FIFA due to a delay in filing the relevant paperwork.

Once the transfer was ratified in the summer, Araujo left Barcelona to join UD Las Palmas where he enjoyed a solid season on loan under Garcia Pimienta.

Upon returning to Barça this summer, it was expected that Araujo would get a run in the first-team squad under new manager Hansi Flick, but it was not to be.

Araujo leaves Barcelona for a transfer fee of around €10 million, with the Catalans not retaining any buyback option or a future sell-on clause.

The Mexican international bids goodbye to the club without playing a single official match in the Blaugrana colours.
