As was expected, FC Barcelona have officially announced the contract renewal of 21-year-old La Masia midfield star Fermin Lopez.

“FC Barcelona and first team player Fermin Lopez have reached an agreement to renew his contract, which will tie him to the Club until June 30, 2029. The termination clause is set at €500 million,” the statement from the club read.

Fermin signed his new contract today at noon in the presence of club president Joan Laporta, vice president, Rafa Yuste, Joan Soler, and Deco.

The academy ace broke into the first-team setup last season under Xavi Hernandez and has not looked back since, becoming an established player for the club while breaking into the Spanish national team setup as well.

After exploding in his debut campaign with Barça, Fermin also starred for Spain at the Olympics 2024 in Paris prior to which he was also a part of the La Roja squad that won the UEFA Euro 2024.

Given his meteoric rise, Barcelona have been eager to hand the La Masia graduate a new contract, reflecting his new status, especially with other top clubs casting admiring glances towards the youngster.

Now, as confirmed by the statement, Fermin has been tied down to the club until June 2029, with an improved release clause of €500 million, increasing from his previous one worth €400 million. The 21-year-old starlet will also see an increase in his wages.

Fermin has had a stop-start season under Hansi Flick this time around owing to a lack of pre-season and injuries last month.

But the youngster showcased his quality in the game against Bayern Munich last week and is bound to grow in importance in the German tactician’s setup.
