With Barcelona set to kick off the new La Liga season tomorrow against Valencia at Mestalla, the Catalans have managed to register veteran defender Inigo Martinez.

The Spaniard was one of a few players who were not registered heading into tomorrow’s La Liga encounter, along with the likes of Pau Victor, Dani Olmo, and Vitor Roque.

However, the Catalan heavyweights have managed to get Martinez enrolled ahead of the trip to Mestalla tomorrow.

Martinez’s registration had been a request from manager Hansi Flick himself, considering that Ronald Araujo is out sidelined while the likes of Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia did not participate in pre-season under the new manager.

Martinez had signed a two-year contract with Barcelona last year but was registered for just one season. It had given way to doubts about his future, but his registration now ensures that he will continue at the club.

Barcelona made use of Ronald Araujo’s injury-enforced absence to register Martinez, like they had done with Vitor Roque in January when Gavi was out with a long-term injury.

The defender’s new squad number is yet to be updated on the La Liga website. Intriguingly, though, Clement Lenglet has been handed the No. 12 shirt and could even feature tomorrow against Valencia.
