After a hellish eight months at FC Barcelona, Vitor Roque has temporarily left the club to sign for La Liga rivals Real Betis on a loan deal, it has been officially confirmed.

“Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and Real Betis Balompié for the loan of the player Vitor Roque until 30 June 2025, with the option of another year. The Andalusian side will both register the player and have the right to purchase,” the club statement read.

Barcelona signed Roque from Athletico Paranaense last summer in a deal worth €30 million plus another €31 million in add-ons, with the striker arriving at the club midway through the previous season in January.

However, the striker never really got much of a chance under former manager Xavi Hernandez, and he was unable to impress new boss Hansi Flick as well in pre-season.

As such, the Catalans had been looking for a way out for the Brazilian international all through the summer.

A permanent transfer to Sporting CP in a deal worth €20 million plus €12 million (variables) was on the cards with Deco even accepting the offer.

But Roque insisted on joining Real Betis instead and Barcelona accepted the youngster’s wishes, with the player now joining the Verdiblancos.

As per the terms of the agreement reported by Fabrizio Romano, the loan deal is for one year with the option of extending it for one more.

During his time there, Betis will cover the entirety of his salary and will also have an option to buy for the Brazilian.

But if he were to return to Barcelona, the Seville-based outfit would still have a future sell-on clause.

Since he was not registered, Roque’s departure does not help Barça in terms of Financial Fair Play margin. But the club will hope that the 19-year-old makes the most of his time in Seville.
