La Liga has announced in an official statement condemning the racist incident directed towards Lamine Yamal during Real Madrid vs Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The governing body, led by Javier Tebas also confirmed that it will report the incident to the Hate Crime Unit of the National Police’s Information Brigade.
Yamal was subjected to racist abuse from supporters located in the front rows of the Santiago Bernabu’s end stand, where the Barça forward celebrated his team’s third goal in the 77th minute of their 4-0 victory over Real Madrid.
A number of derogatory marks were directed at the 17-year-old prodigy who had just scored a fine goal for his team.
Real Madrid have already issued a statement condemning the incident and launching an investigation into the matter. La Liga has now followed suit.
La Liga’s statement on the racist abuse against Yamal
Following the numerous racist insults directed at Yamal at the Santiago Bernabeu, La Liga issued a statement announcing measures:
“Regarding the events that occurred during the Real Madrid CF – FC Barcelona match, where intolerable racist behaviour was observed, La Liga will immediately report the racist insults and gestures directed at FC Barcelona players to the Hate Crime Unit of the National Police’s Information Brigade, and will inform the Coordinating Chamber Prosecutor of the Hate Crimes and Discrimination Unit of the State Attorney General’s Office.”
The statement, released just after 11 am on Saturday, 27th October, also condemned such behaviour:
“La Liga strongly condemns these events at the Santiago Bernabeu and remains firm in its commitment to eradicate all forms of racist behaviour and hatred both inside and outside stadiums. There is no place for this scourge in sport.”
