There has been an official Newcastle United injury update.

Now only four weeks to go until the Premier League season kicks off at St James’ Park at 3pm on Saturday 17 August against Southampton.

The official Newcastle United injury update comes after Friday’s training session at the Adidas world-class training facility in Germany where the squad have been working this week ahead of the new season.

The first-team squad set to be flying back to Tyneside today (Saturday 20 July).

Eddie Howe delivering this official Newcastle United injury update, when quizzed by the media after six players in the traveling party were missing from the full group training session.

Tino Livarmento – Still working his way back to full fitness before he will join full group training, after an ankle injury towards the end of last season.

Callum Wilson – Eddie Howe explaining ‘Callum Wilson has gone to see a back specialist just to have a little procedure on his back, it is just something that he has been feeling a little bit, so we are just getting it checked out.’ When asked whether the striker would still be available for the start of the season, the Head Coach replying ‘Let’s see.’

Matt Targett – Still working his way back to full fitness before he will join full group training, as an Achilles injury saw him miss most of last season.

Joe Willock – Working his way back to full fitness before he will join full group training, as he recovers from an Achilles injury picked up last season.

Lewis Miley – Eddie Howe explaining ‘Lewis Miley got injured, not with us, but while doing some off-season work.’ At the start of July it was revealed that the 18-year-old had suffered a broken metatarsal when turning innocuously during a running drill.

Lloyd Kelly – Eddie Howe saying ‘Lloyd Kelly we are just being protective over but he’s fit and fine.’

Eddie Howe commenting about the overall situation… ‘We do have a hangover of injuries from last season.’

Good to hear that everything fine with Lloyd Kelly but we already knew Lewis Miley would miss the start of the season, as well as Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman as they work towards getting back from their big injuries/operation. Sandro Tonali won’t be available (due to suspension) in the Premier League until the Spurs match in September, so now we have to wait and see who, if any, out of Livramento, Wilson, Targett and Willock will return to group training in time to then be ready for Southampton in four weeks time,
