An official Newcastle United injury update on Tuesday morning.

Eddie Howe talking to journalists.

The NUFC Head Coach speaking ahead of this Nottingham Forest cup match.

Eddie Howe hoping to follow up four points from six in the Premier League, with progress in the Carabao Cup.

Official Newcastle United injury update – Availability for Nottingham Forest match (and beyond):

Callum Wilson – Eddie Howe confirming that the striker’s recovery from a back injury is still going well but Wilson will be missing this one.

Eddie Howe:

“Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury and I am happy with his progress.

“He is working very hard, as he always does.

“We miss him, he adds a different dynamic.

“He is such an important character around the squad, we hope to get him back soon, but it won’t be before the international break.”

Jamaal Lascelles – Continues his long-term recovery.

Sven Botman – The same as Lascelles, although this week on his personal social media, Botman posted the message ‘Step by step. Closer’ alongside images of him working on his fitness.

Lewis Miley – Still recovering from his back injury.

Sandro Tonali – Now back available on Wednesday at Forest as his ban ends, Eddie Howe confirming (see below) that the Italy international will be in the matchday squad for this cup game.

Fabian Schar – This is the second match of three that the defender misses, as an appeal against the Southampton red card was rejected. Schar will be back available after Spurs.

The good news is though, no reported new injuries!

So ‘only’ the five definitely missing on Wednesday, however, the NUFC Head Coach making clear that he will be making changes that aren’t forced by injury.

Eddie Howe speaking on Tuesday morning about his team selection v Forest:

“We will try and play a really strong team; we want to progress.

“We will make changes as well at the same time, because we have a squad that I think enables me to do so, while not weakening the quality, we saw the strength of our bench on Sunday, which made a huge difference.

“There are a lot of players eager to show what they can do.

“We are determined to do well; this competition has been good for us. Last year we were incredibly close to another semi-final.”

Eddie Howe talking on Tuesday morning about Sandro Tonali:

“He will definitely be in the squad providing he comes through training today.

He’s fit. He just hasn’t had the match time, the 11 v 11, which players will tell you is the most important thing within the game.

“He’s done everything else.

“He has worked incredibly hard with the sports science team to be on top of his fitness, to make sure he’s fitter than he was when he was banned.
