An official Newcastle United injury update has followed Wednesday night’s victory at St James’ Park.
United eventually taking all three points after an eventful match.
Alexander Isak finishing off an excellent team move just before the break.
Then Newcastle United recovered from a Brentford penalty equaliser on 66 minutes, Sandro Tonali eight minutes later smashing home an outrageous effort from an almost impossible angle, some claiming it might have been an intended cross…
With matches coming thick and fast and Leicester next up on Monday, Eddie Howe delivering this official Newcastle United injury update after concerns over some of the players who were subbed off against Brentford:
A surprise to see Alexander Isak subbed off just after Brentford had equalised, the NUFC Head Coach explaining why:
”I don’t think he was feeling 100 per cent, so that is why we withdrew him.
“He wasn’t feeling 100 per cent with his groin I think, and in his movement, so that is why we withdrew him.
“Hopefully nothing serious.”
Kieran Trippier had an excellent game but was replaced with just a minute to go of normal time, Eddie Howe explaining:
“He was feeling a cramp sensation in his groin.
“We hope it’s nothing serious because we can’t afford any injuries, we have such a small squad, as we saw with the bench today.”
Joelinton wasn’t subbed off but had lengthy treatment on the pitch in the second half, Eddie Howe commenting on the Brazil international:
“His knee was causing him a bit of discomfort today, it’s the knee that he’s suffered from before.
“I don’t think he was 100 per cent fit but it would have taken a lot for Joe to have come off the pitch today.
“But that’s where we need to assess every little niggle we have and make sure everyone is okay for Monday.”
Reading between the lines of what Eddie Howe has said, sounds like hopefully just precautions with both Trippier and Isak when subbed off. Whilst Joelinton was able to finish the full match, including the seemingly endless added time, so hopefully no reason why he won’t be ok to face Leicester as well.
