The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Branch, on Tuesday, commended the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for implementing a wage increase for all categories of its members in the state.

In a letter titled “New Wage Increase to Ogun Pensioners: Expression of Gratitude,” signed by State Chairman Comrade Waidi Oloyede, Secretary Comrade Bola Lawal, and State Treasurer Comrade O. Ogabi, the union expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the governor for his consideration and support towards state retirees.

The union noted that the state government began disbursing the N20,000 wage increase from October 2024.

According to the union, such a wage increase for pensioners was last achieved 16 years ago, with no visible increase since then across all salary levels.

“Your Excellency, we cannot help but acknowledge the many commendable gestures provided by your exceptional administration, including the prompt and regular payment of monthly pensions, the consistent release of accrued gratuities, and financial support to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, among others.

“The executive and the entire body of Ogun State pensioners immensely appreciate your sincerity of purpose, kindness, compassion, and dedication to the elderly. Thank you so much, sir,” the letter further stated.

The union also appealed to the governor to consider a consequential review of pensions for long-standing retirees in line with the Federal Government’s circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions for those who retired before the implementation of the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2019.
