The Ogun State Government on Tuesday affirmed its steadfast commitment to working closely with labour unions and their affiliates to create an enabling environment for the welfare of its workers.

The State’s Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, gave the assurance while declaring open the 5th State Branch Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, held at the Ogun Bureaucrats’ House, Magbon, Abeokuta.

Onasanya stated that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, is dedicated to fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with organised labour, emphasising the principles of dialogue, understanding, and collaboration.

While acknowledging that workers’ contributions to the development and advancement of public service are invaluable, Onasanya noted that the combined efforts of all labour leaders have been instrumental in advocating for workers’ welfare and driving continuous improvements within the labour environment.

He urged them to continue supporting the state government’s policies, programmes, and projects, which are designed to enhance the welfare of the people and secure a brighter future for all.

“Revered comrades, as we continue the journey of ‘Building Our Future Together’ under the leadership of His Excellency, the Governor, your continued support and collaboration are absolutely crucial to the successful implementation of this transformative agenda.

“The progress and prosperity of Ogun State depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, and as key partners in this journey, your cooperation, understanding, and active participation are indispensable,” Onasanya said.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Ogun State, Akeem Lasisi, and his counterpart from the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ademola Hameed-Benco, congratulated the association’s leadership for its achievements over the past four years.

The labour leaders expressed appreciation to the state governor for prioritising workers’ welfare, particularly for implementing the new minimum wage, setting the state’s civil service apart among its peers.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Branch Chairman of ASCSN, Isa Olude, thanked the Governor for his support of workers.

Olude particularly commended the governor for numerous welfare initiatives, including prompt payment of salaries and allowances, regular promotions for deserving officers, payment of outstanding cooperative deductions, peculiar allowances, and the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

He assured that civil servants would continue to lead in discharging their statutory duties, remaining a beacon among states across the country.

He called on the Federal Government to urgently address the current economic challenges faced by the people to make life more bearable for all.
