Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, is delighted at his participation in the 81st edition of Venice International Film Festival, which is organised by La Biennale di Venezia and runs on the Lido di Venezia from August 28 to September 7, 2024.

The 25-year-old Udinese shotstopper took part in the event, which is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association), before joining his Nigeria teammates in Uyo ahead of Saturday’s 2025 AFCON qualifying clash with the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The Düsseldorf, Germany-born shared his excitement in a statement on his Instagram page, extending gratitude to the Italian Serie A and Udinese, among others.

“Great night at the 81st edition of the Venice Film Exhibition. It was an honour for me to participate in the premiere of the documentary “Seydou, Dream Has No Colour,” in which I had the chance to work with Seydou Sarr and a great team. Many thanks to Serie A and Udinese calcio for this opportunity and special.

The lineup of events includes the following sections: Venezia 81, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Orizzonti Extra, Biennale College Cinema, and Venice Classics.

The aim of the festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms, as art, entertainment, and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. One section is devoted to enhancing the restoration works on classic films as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema, in particular to the advantage of young audiences.

Okoye has been in splendid form for Udinese in the last two seasons and will be looking to wrest the Nigeria number one shirt from Stanley Nwabali as the Super Eagles seek to rekindle their AFCON qualification with testy ties against Benin and Rwanda on September 7 and September 10, respectively.
