The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday, pledged to give interest-free loans to traders if voted into power as the next governor of Edo State on September 21.
Okpebholo made the promise on Cook Road, Benin City, while addressing traders at the New Building Materials Sellers Association on Cook Road in Benin City.
Okpebholo also promised to help the traders build the association’s secretariat on the plot of land donated to them by the late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa II.
He said, “Traders are very important in the development of the economy because of the kind of businesses they do. Any money invested in traders is not lost. So, I will fulfill my promise of giving interest-free loans immediately after I become the governor.
“I am coming to work for the Edo people and not to mismanage their funds. Vote APC on September 21 and you will benefit from the programme we have lined up for the residents of the state.”
Earlier, the Director General of the APC Campaign Council, Matthew Urhoghide, told the traders that he brought Okpebholo to talk to them about what he wanted to do and also hear their demands.
He told the traders the APC candidate would do all that he had promised, stating that Okpebholo’s aspiration to become the governor was to better the lots of the citizens.
Addressing the campaign team earlier, the president of the traders’ association, Nonso Ibeh, said Senator Urhoghide had been close to his association, stating that he came to them twice for his election and he won, assuring that the outcome of Thursday’s visit would not be different.
Nonso added, “We pray that when you are elected you will help us to build our secretariat for which we have been given a parcel of land by the late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa 11.”
Also speaking to people in Idumu Ewase Community on Isihuhe Street, off Mission Road, Benin, Okpebholo urged the residents not to vote for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, saying the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, would behave like his godfather, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He added, “Vote for the APC on September 21, and I will make sure I deliver dividends of democracy.”
