After three seasons spent on the bench of Olympique Lyonnais, Sonia Bompastor will leave the club to coach Chelsea.

It's a new chapter that is about to close for Olympique Lyonnaise. Arriving in April 2021 to take Jean-Luc Vasseur's place, Sonia Bompastor will leave Wendie Renard and her partners to join Chelsea FC. The information is not yet official, but on the other side of the Channel, the London club and the media no longer have any doubt on the subject.

And even if the main interested party has for the moment preferred to kick into touch, as was the case on March 27 during the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League won by OL against Benfica (4-1), the matter still seems well underway. As indicated The Team in today's edition, the tactician prefers to postpone a possible announcement, but the media also clarified that Sonia Bompastor has already expressed, privately, her choice to go to England next June.

End of busy season

Since coaching OL, Sonia Bompastor has built up a fine track record with a Champions League won in 2022, two French championships (2022, 2023), a Coupe de France (2023), but also two Trophées des champions (2022, 2023) and an International Champions Cup (2022). This season, she could well add a few trophies to her showcase since her team is still in the running in the Champions League and will face PSG in the semi-finals.

Lyon is also well ahead of D1 Arkema, with seven points ahead of its runner-up in Paris, enough to head towards a new coronation on the French scene. The native of Blois, now aged forty-three, is in any case eagerly awaited at Chelsea, the players having a priori given their agreement for her arrival. Once the announcement is made official, Sonia Bompastor will have the difficult task of succeeding a figure, Emma Hayes, who is leaving to take the reins of the North American selection.
