France beat Argentina (1-0) and booked its place in the semi-finals of the Olympic Games.
The match between the French Olympic team and Argentina, played this Friday on the pitch of the Matmut-Atlantique stadium in Bordeaux, lived up to its promise in terms of intensity.
Les Bleuets quickly took the lead with a goal in the 5th minute, scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta. On a perfectly executed corner by Michael Olise, the French center forward emerged to place a powerful header in the center of the goal, scoring his second goal of the competition after the one against New Zealand.
In the 36th minute, Javier Mascherano’s men missed the chance to equalise. Kevin Zenon, in an ideal position in the area, tried his luck with a header, but his shot ended up in the stands.
Despite this delay, the Selección continued to dominate possession of the ball. Their attackers, very mobile, multiplied the calls, thus facilitating the construction of the game by the midfielders.
Olise almost did it again
In the second half, Mateta had another chance from a corner, but his effort went just over the goal. France almost made it two points thanks to the irrepressible Olise.
Indeed, after receiving the ball in the area, the Bayern Munich fireball managed to find the left net of Geronimo Rulli’s goal. However, the referee disallowed the goal after consulting the VAR, due to a foul by Maghnes Akliouche.
Finally, the team led by Thierry Henry won by the smallest of scores. They thus qualified for the last four, where they will face Egypt, victorious over Paraguay (1-1, 5-4 draw).
