OM, a departure that poses a problem

Disappointing since his arrival at OM in January 2023, Azzedine Ounahi has agreed to leave the Phocéens. But the right place to land must be found for the Moroccan international.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Iliman Ndiaye and Pape Gueye have already left the club, not to mention the permanent transfers of Mattéo Guendouzi and Vitinha. But Olympique de Marseille is not done with departures.

Jonathan Clauss is expected to pack his bags to head to Nice, and players like Chancel Mbemba, Samuel Gigot, Jordan Veretout, Ismaïla Sarr and Pau Lopez do not necessarily fit into the plans of the new coach, Roberto De Zerbi. Finally, Azzedine Ounahi has been granted an exit voucher.

Which club for Ounahi?

Having arrived at OM in January 2023, the former Angers player has practically never shown with the Phocéens the level that is often his with the Moroccan selection. To get back on track, and because De Zerbi wants to remodel the OM midfield, Ounahi now finds himself on the way out. But to go where?

Last year, the Atlas Lion, approached by Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), was ready to join the Gulf. His agent at the time, a certain Mehdi Benatia, had dissuaded him. Now, Benatia is the advisor to president Pablo Longoria at OM, and he is no longer opposed to this destination for Ounahi. But it is the Moroccan selection, according to L’Equipe, which would prefer to see him stay in Europe.

OM are thus prospecting in England, Spain, Italy and Germany to find a buyer. The Phocéens would like to recover at least 12 million euros for Ounahi, who had been one of the great revelations of the 2022 World Cup.
