Loaned to Genoa (with a purchase option of €25 million) in the final hours of the transfer window, Vitinha rediscovered his taste for football in Italy. Despite still meager statistics (1 goal in 6 appearances with the Rossoblu), the Portuguese expressed his happiness at being at the club. In an interview given to Il Secolo, an important local media outlet in Genoa, the striker claims that he had a bad time during the previous period with Marseille. A change of environment allowed him to smile again and he would prefer to stay at Genoa at the end of the season.

“I felt that Genoa could be the right choice to find myself and that’s what happened. I'm going through the most difficult period of my life, but I'm also coping with it thanks to the help of the club. There are still nine games left, but I want to return the favor to Genoa. In Genoa, I found the real Vitinha but the choice does not depend on me. At the end of the season, the two clubs will meet and discuss my future because the loan will be until June. The two clubs are warned about the intentions of the 24-year-old player.
