Mason Greenwood, courted by several clubs, opted for OM, preferring the Marseille project to that of Lazio. A sporting choice which did not convince Claudio Lotito, the Roman president, who publicly criticized the attitude of the English international,

This summer, Olympique de Marseille conducted an ambitious transfer window, notably with the signing of Mason Greenwood among its star recruits. The English striker, pushed out by Manchester United due to accusations of domestic violence and threats of rape against him, had spent the previous season on loan at Getafe.

But to bounce back, the former star of the Red Devils finally chose to settle down in Canebière, even though he had the possibility of joining Lazio Rome in Serie A. Lazio tackle Greenwood

Despite this failure, Claudio Lotito, the president of the Biancocelesti, affirmed that he absolutely did not regret the non-signing of the player. The transalpine leader, however, took a dig at the Bradford native, going so far as to describe him as a “mercenary”.

“It’s absolutely not a regret. We don’t want mercenaries. He is happy in Marseille, Mason made a choice and it’s good. We do not accept mercenaries, we only want those who choose Lazio”, whispered Lotito.
