Roberto De Zerbi, the new OM coach, personally pushed for the recruitment of Mason Greenwood.
Mason Greenwood is now part of the squad. On Wednesday evening, he made his first appearance with the Olympian team during the friendly match against Toulon (3-0).
If the Englishman is at OM it is largely thanks to Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian called the English player and his family almost daily to conclude his transfer. The former Manchester United striker ended up being convinced.
De Zerbi didn’t listen to anyone
Greenwood, who was also in contact with Lazio and on a return to Getafe, was won over by the personal arguments of the former Brighton coach. The latter worked with all his might to finalize the deal because he was well aware of the qualities of the England international (1 cap). This was revealed by the British media The Athletic.
Not everyone approved of the transfer. The mayor of the city was unhappy that the Marseille club had recruited this player, given his legal history. But De Zerbi remained unperturbed and, above all, unaffected by external pressure.
