Mehdi Benatia, OM’s sports advisor, once again criticized his international defender Jonathan Clauss.

Clearly, between Jonathan Clauss and the Marseille management the conflict remains open. Despite the desire to appease the spirits publicly displayed by both parties, it would seem that the divide remained open.

In an interview with Canal+, Mehdi Benatia, Pablo Longoria’s right-hand man, explained in detail everything that happened with the former Lensois. “What happened with Clauss?” It is very simple. When I arrived, I was warned about two or three players whose behavior was borderline. Jonathan is one of these players. I know that he had been received several times in the coach’s office to explain to him what was expected of him, in terms of his attitude as a leader and French international. We thought the message had gotten through, but unfortunately it didn’t.”

Clauss’ attitude called into question

The Moroccan also returned to the episode in Monaco, where Clauss left at half-time for a simple embarrassment. “Against Monaco, he asked for change. We, with such an important player, have to tell him “grit your teeth!” “. This is not the time to let go because we are missing 10 or 12 players at that time. When he comes out and we learn that it was just a stunt, not all the staff are happy. We tell ourselves that the player wants to leave.”

And what happened after the meeting? Did Benatia have a threatening tone towards the player and his clan? His answer : “The club asks me to call their agent after this match. I actually left him a voice note. Telling him that it was important for us to be able to move forward quickly if he wants to leave. But there was no threat. No one threatened anyone.”

So Clauss ultimately stayed. However, things have not completely returned to normal since. “There was no offer in the end. There he plays and we will see at the end of the season what happens. Has his state of mind improved since then? A little bit better, yes.”
