The story between Olympique de Marseille and Villarreal is probably coming to an end. If we see him more and more on the pitch in recent matches (11 appearances in Ligue 1 in total), the midfielder sees his contract end in June at Canebière. There is no longer much doubt that he will go away. But to go where? According to the Spanish press, this future destination would already be found since he would join Villarreal.
According to information from A.S., the Senegalese has already agreed with the Yellow Submarine on the terms of a contract. He would sign a 4-season lease, plus an optional year. He was particularly in demand by a certain Marcelino, short-lived OM coach at the start of the season. The technician would play the role of keystone in this file since he had made Gueye the priority to strengthen himself in midfield for the next season.
Marcelino, key man in this matter
It must be believed that this pleased the former Le Havre resident, who would therefore have given his approval. This destination is not surprising since the 25-year-old has already played in La Liga in the past. He was notably loaned to Sevilla FC in the second part of last season. If he had not been included in the UEFA list of the Andalusians, and therefore did not participate in the victorious Europa League campaign (winner of Roma in the final), he had still participated in 16 La Liga matches (1 goal, 3 assists).
This winter, and while he had been put on the shelf by OM in the fall after he refused to extend with the Marseille club as we revealed, Gueye had been courted by Cadiz and Sevilla, interested by a possible return of the 2021 African champion. He ultimately remained in Marseille and even benefited from the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset to regain playing time. “I spoke with management. If you give me a mission, I would like to have all the assets. He’s a player that I really like.”boasted the technician when he arrived.
