The New Year often brings fresh beginnings, and for entertainers, it’s the perfect time to unveil bold transformations. From hairstyles to fashion choices, many artists use their appearances to make statements, reflect personal growth or simply surprise their fans.
In 2025, artistes such as Asake, Seyi Vibez and Omah Lay took this concept to the next level, debuting striking new looks. Their transformations sparked conversations, excitement and mixed reactions among fans and industry watchers alike.
At the recent Paris Fashion Week, Omah Lay stunned fans with a new curly hairdo, mini bag and earrings. Reactions from fans online ranged from tagging his hairstyle as popular ‘washing and setting’ to playful memes comparing him to international pop stars.
Asake, who is known for his signature dreadlocks, shocked fans when he debuted his new look of a clean-shaven afro, as well as face and arm tattoos on January 12, 2025. In a video he posted on social media, he shared a snippet of his latest release, Why Love. Fans immediately took to social media to react to this new look. While some applauded his boldness and called it a “symbolic fresh start”, others stated that they missed his iconic dreads that had become part of his identity.
A fan, Bridget Nez-Effor, wrote on Facebook, “This is not Asake Joor”, while Gbemzy Blessing.adesiyan commented, “Identity crisis re ooo (This is identity crisis)”. Yet another follower, Boylogik added, “If you like draw dragon for face, I still dey for you (sic).”
Seyi Vibez, on the other hand, swapped his regular dreadlocks for a bold blonde look. He also dyed his eyebrow and added colourful grills to his teeth.
