On-loan Barcelona defender making a case for himself with yet another stellar performance

Julian Araujo has been a shining example of successful player development away from Barcelona and journalist Sergi Capdevila is reporting via SPORT that his numbers are supporting his return to Xavi’s team next season. 

Born in California, Araujo is determined to return to Barcelona with a clear goal in mind. This season, he has been thriving under the guidance of Garcia Pimienta at Las Palmas, a team that plays with an attacking style, focusing on keeping possession of the ball.

Right now, it is suggested that Barcelona are in full swing planning for the next season. 

There are many discussions happening with various players, especially those who are currently out on loan and it is time to assess their performances as their loan spells come to an end.

A successful return from injury

The timing seems perfect for Araujo to return to Barcelona and potentially join the squad for the 2024/25 season.

In a recent match against Mallorca, Araujo made his comeback for Las Palmas after recovering from a muscle injury sustained while playing for his national team, Mexico. Despite not being at full fitness, he put on an impressive performance. 

He won eight out of nine duels, lost possession only seven times out of 53 actions, created a scoring opportunity, made five clearances, and blocked a shot. 

Most importantly, he showed great intensity and resilience in one-on-one situations, even though he wasn’t fully fit.

It must be noted that Xavi has time and again emphasized the importance of having depth in each position to stay competitive, especially with a hectic schedule ahead.

As suggested before, Barcelona have Araujo in their plans, especially considering the uncertain future that Joao Cancelot continues to face. 

However, even if the Portuguese continues, Xavi will have no problem in having two options at his disposal.
