Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, has been sidelined with a recent injury.

According to a statement released by the club, the French defender suffered a grade 1 sprain to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a grade 1/2 sprain in his left ankle during Atletico Madrid’s clash against Leganes on Sunday.

The injury occurred in the 64th minute when Axel Witsel accidentally fell on Lenglet’s left leg, forcing him to leave the field and be replaced by fellow defender Jose Maria Gimenez.

On Monday, Atletico Madrid confirmed the diagnosis through a medical update, following tests that Lenglet underwent earlier in the day.

How long will he be gone?

The French defender’s injuries are not severe but will still require him to be out of action for the next three to four weeks, reports Mundo Deportivo

This diagnosis will keep him sidelined during a crucial period for Atletico Madrid, as they compete in both domestic and European fixtures.

Lenglet has sprained his knee and left ankle, according to the tests underwent after yesterday’s game.

The defender has a grade I sprain of the internal collateral ligament of the left knee and a grade I/II sprain of the deltoid ligament of the left ankle.

The club’s medical team confirmed that Lenglet will begin physiotherapy and rehabilitation to aid his recovery.

“Lenglet has sprained his knee and left ankle, according to the tests underwent after yesterday’s game,” read a statement from Atletico Madrid.

While the injury is a setback for both the player and the club, it is expected that he will follow a structured rehabilitation plan aimed at ensuring a full recovery.

Medical experts have suggested that his recovery could take up to three weeks, depending on how well his body responds to the treatment.

Lenglet’s absence is likely to have an impact on Atletico’s defensive setup, as they will have to manage without him for the next few games.

However, with proper care and rehabilitation, the Frenchman is expected to return to the pitch soon, ready to contribute once again to Atletico’s campaign.
