Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State promised on Friday to continue implementing infrastructural projects across the state if re-elected.
The governorship election in the state is scheduled for November 16, 2024, and the All Progressives Congress, alongside 16 other political parties, has begun campaigning ahead of the election.
Aiyedatiwa, who is also the APC candidate, accompanied by his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, and several party leaders, visited various locations in Akure, the state capital, including the palace of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi. He urged the people to vote for him in the upcoming election.
He stated, “You can see what I have been doing since I assumed office, so I promise you that I won’t relent in my infrastructural projects. The solar power initiative will continue. We have completed phase one, and we will move on to phase two.
“In phase two, we will ensure that there are solar lights in our markets so that our market women can continue trading into the evening.”
At the Deji’s palace, the governor pledged to initiate more infrastructural projects, particularly road construction, across the kingdom if re-elected.
“Akure remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. For any positive development to occur in the state, it must begin in Akure. We have been responding to your requests, and we will continue to do more.
I have not yet fully commenced my government,” he pledged.
While canvassing for votes from the people of Akure, Aiyedatiwa urged them to come out in large numbers to vote for him on November 16. He also stated that his administration would restructure the budget to align with his developmental plans for the state.
“I am very pleased with what I see here. What the Obas prophesied last time is the same message they have conveyed today. I am not here to make promises. You have seen and understood my actions since I was deputy governor; I have been addressing issues related to the Obas. The voice of kings is akin to God’s voice.”
Welcoming the governor and his entourage, Oba Aladelusi, who is the Chairman of the Council of Obas in the state, described Aiyedatiwa as a man who respects traditional rulers and institutions in the state.
The monarch pleaded with Aiyedatiwa to maintain his infrastructural projects, especially in road construction and the provision of solar street lights in Akure.
“The governor is performing well, and he needs to be supported in his ambitions. Here in Akure, we have benefitted from his support of infrastructure.
“However, we urge the governor to assist us in constructing internal roads in Akure and to prioritise our market roads and Igbatoro Road, as this route leads to Benin in Edo State and will ease transportation,” the monarch said.
