On its way to the Oscars, Christopher Nolan’s historical epic Oppenheimer has set a record at Peacock, landing the biggest launch weekend for any film on the platform.

Upon its February 16 launch, the film surpassed the ratings of last year’s Illumination juggernaut The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Specific stats weren’t disclosed.

Currently, Oppenheimer is up for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Directing, Actor, Supporting Actor and Actress, to name a few. Grossing nearly $1 billion globally when it hit theaters last summer opposite Warner Bros’ Barbie, the film propels audiences into the paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. It finds America locked in a devastating war, watching as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) becomes the central figure in a pulse-pounding race against the Nazis to develop the first atomic bomb.

A Nolan-scripted adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh. Emma Thomas and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven produced alongside Roven.
