The Oppo Reno 12 F 5G is one of the new Mid-range series that Oppo Mobile just launched in Nigeria, the two Devices, Oppo Reno 12 and 12F 5G are the two smartphones that were launched into the Nigerian Market.

This is a review of the Oppo Reno12F 5G and the outstanding AI features that you’d get on the device which makes it superior to its counterparts e.g Samsung Galaxy phones that have AI features, keeping in mind that, Samsung phones are pretty more expensive while Oppo offers affordable phones with top-notch features.

Oppo Reno 12 F 5G Design & Build Quality

The Oppo Reno 12 F 5G has a perfect and sleek build quality. At the back, it has a two-tone finish. It has a slim profile making it friendly to hold in your hands. They paid attention to the design by making it compact and stylish. I will also say that the look is unique depending on the color variant you choose. The Amber Orange is my favorite but there is also an Olive green color option.

Even though the back of the phone is smooth it is not a fingerprint magnet like most phones. It has an IP64 water and dust resistant rating which is impressive. The camera bump at the back doesn’t protrude too much at the back to create a massive hump. It has a curved screen that adds to how the phone feels in the hand – MORE COMFORTABLE TO HOLD – without sharp edges to cause pain like the Samsung S22 Ultra & S23 Ultra.

It’s not curved aggressively which means you won’t get accidental touches on the display just as it happens on phones like the Samsung S23 Ultra more on the display in a bit. The phone has two SIM slots with an SD card slot which was removed from the Oppo Reno 11 Pro. It weighs 187 grams with a thickness of 7.69mm. The design is impressive and handling the phone makes it premium – thanks to the all-round curved armour structure.

Display Quality

The Oppo Reno 12 F 5G has a 6.67-inch OLED Panel with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate which can be reduced to 60Hz to save battery consumption. The quality of the display is impressive and I will tell you it’s near the flagship level. The display is slightly curved and it is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Outdoors it is a visible display and you can see clearly with up to 1200 nits of brightness.

The device has a screen-to-body ratio of 92%. The refresh rate makes scrolling smooth and seamless. It also lets you get better graphics when playing games on the phone. Watching videos on YouTube is also enjoyable because of the colors you get on the OLED panel. The haptic feedback you get while typing on the display is also very impressive I must tell you.

Oppo also added some features like Adaptive Tone that adjust the screen color temperature based on the ambient light condition automatically. It switches depending on the environment you find yourself in. It reduces eye strain during long-term usage. Some AI features let you scroll hands-free while using the display. Overall I will say the display on the Reno 12 F 5G is great, it is on Flagship level.

Software Aspect & Performance of the Oppo Reno 12 F 5G

The Oppo Reno12 Pro runs on ColorOS 14.0.1 based on Android 14. The animations and transitions are smooth and it comes with some useful features. The file dock on the side panel is very useful for accessing apps quickly. It also acts like a clipboard where you save files and photos. The flexible windows option in the settings turns apps and notifications into floating windows. With a powerful MediaTek Dimesity chipset, the processing rate of any smartphone task is powerful and fast.

MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G CPU

There are few pre-installed apps and you get suggestions to download apps but overall the experience is smooth. You can also remove the preinstalled apps if you want. You also get a lot of AI features and I think there is no phone within its price category with the number of AI features it offers. The software experience is impressive and the ColorOS has always been one of my favorite OS on Android.

Performance

The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G paired with 12GB RAM (the height RAM variant and 8GB RAM as the lowest) and 256GB (the lowest storage size and 512GB storage has the highest) storage space. Remember you still get an SD card slot to increase memory.

MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G CPU

Performance is smooth and you can run games easily with the phone, surfing through the phone is also impressive as I didn’t encounter any lags or stutters – for Tiktokers, the CPU on the phone is pretty fast enough to handle quick video editing and also for other operations. For the price, I think the performance is as expected. Multitasking is a breeze and apps run smoothly in the background.

Thanks to the Trinity Engine that Oppo Mobile developed to help the Oppo Reno12 F 5G boost its overall performance through its intelligence to allocate memory for a more demanding app/game than a game or app that doesn’t require much of that to give a more optimum & smooth experience.

There is also RAM expansion in a case where you want to increase the RAM to 24GB(Virtual RAM).

Battery Life and Charging Speed

The Battery is 5000mAh and can last a day on a single charge – looking at the electricity issue in Nigeria, the smartphone’s fast charge and good battery strength come into play, thanks to the MediaTek CPU that is used, It can even go more than a single day if you are a casual user. Charging from zero to a hundred takes 1hr and a few minutes using the 40-watt fast-wired charger that comes with the box.

Artificial Intelligence is making its way to every device, but most of the devices released in Nigeria barely have any AI features. The Oppo Reno 12 F 5G has TONS of new AI features and will be available in Nigeria for Reno 12 Users. Samsung is the only brand that offers AI features on devices available in the Nigerian Market, but these features are not as intuitive as those with the Reno 12F 5G.

In this article, we will explore the AI features of the Reno 12F 5G and compare them with those of the Samsung Galaxy S24 since they are priced similarly. The phone has almost 10 AI features, and we will examine them closely to see how they compare to the Galaxy S24.

All of The AI Features of the Oppo Reno 12 F 5G That Superceed any other smartphone, including Samsung’s Ai

1. AI Eraser 2.0

The AI Erase already existed on many Oppo phones, but they upgraded it to 2.0, which is a lot better now. The image detection has been improved and will detect any object in a picture you want to remove. You can also circle any object you want to remove. It is swift and takes less than a few seconds to complete the action. The Samsung Galaxy S24 also has the same feature. You can even move objects in a photo on the Samsung S24, but it is difficult to use. It’s not as straightforward as what we have on the Oppo Reno 12 F 5G.

2. AI Studio

AI studio on the Oppo Reno 12 F 5G lets you turn any of your existing pictures into an awesome avatar or profile picture. This type of AI image enhancement has been available for a while, but it is mostly paid and difficult to access. On the Reno 12F 5G, all you have to do is upload the image in the AI studio, and it will generate multiple variations of the picture. The Galaxy S24 doesn’t have a feature like that. All you can do is to generate wallpapers.

3. AI Toolbox

Thanks to Google’s Gemini, you can swipe by the right side of the display to access it. It has an AI writer that you can use to write emails and any other writing using prompts. There is AI speak that can read anything on your phone, and you also get an AI summary that can summarize text for you.

The good thing about the AI toolbox is that it understands what you are doing on your phone, and when you swipe to the right, it will suggest the best AI tool that you need at that time. On the Samsung Galaxy S24, you have to use the Samsung keyboard to generate text. The Samsung browser also supports AI summary while browsing, but it is only restricted to the app on the phone. You can access the feature on the Reno 12F 5G anywhere on the phone.

4. AI Recorder

The AI recorder comes with summaries of voice recordings that can be saved to the notes quickly. It highlights important dates, times, and to-do lists. Samsung also has something similar; they can do transcription and other exciting features. In this aspect, I wouldn’t say one is better. But, having it on the Oppo Reno device gives the Reno device more strength as it makes it more competitive with Samsung and has nothing to rule out when comparing both devices.

If you are a student or you work in the media space, this feature is one to check out with the Oppo Reno 12, if you have a recording of a class or a recording of a meeting, this feature comes in handy and helps you summarize your voice notes in quick times and as a content creator this feature is one to help you out with your content analysis.

5. AI LinkBoost & BeaconLink

This new feature has never been seen before on a communication-based feature that comes with the phone. There is a 360-degree surround antenna inside the phone, which boosts signal detection and optimizes network selection.

This means even if you are in an area with a low signal, the Reno 12F 5G will use link boost to give you the best signal possible. The feature isn’t available on the Samsung Galaxy S24. There is also Beaconlink on the Reno 12F 5G that lets you call using Bluetooth. It works with devices that are 200 meters away from your phone.

6. Splash Touch Display

This is not an AI feature, but it is worth talking about. The display of the Oppo Reno 12 pro works well even when water touches it surface. You can operate it normally even when it is raining. The display of many phones within its price category won’t work when water splashes on them because they assume it’s someone typing on the display. The Reno 12F 5G is one of the few phones that work with a splash of water on the display.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence keeps getting popular, and Oppo is among the smartphone brands in Nigeria that offer essential and useful AI features. Most of the competing brands offer useless & gimmicky AI features.

If you want helpful AI features, the Reno 12F 5G gives you many of them, with the promise of more useful features in upcoming software updates. What else do you want to know about the Reno 12F 5G let us know in the comment section.

The Reno 12F 5G costs about N523,900 which is affordable when compared to other smartphones that provide so many AI features and close to flagship specs.
