Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala

Asisat Oshoala is thrilled by her sixth goal in Bay FC colours, which gave the club a share of the spoils against North Carolina Courage in the NWSL Game Week 20 encounter at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary, North Carolina, in the early hours of Saturday.

The Nigeria striker fired the visitors in front in the 9th minute, but their defence caved in in the 28th minute over incessant pressure from the home team, who were drawn level by Ashley Sanchez.

It was Oshoala’s sixth and second successive goal for Bay FC, having taken her tally to five in their 1-0 home win over Racing Louisville on Sunday, September 8.

The 29-year-old has overcome culture shock and rediscovered her scoring wand that saw her score 85 goals in 101 appearances for Barcelona between 2019 and 2024 when she joined Bay FC.

Cladded in the Nigerian flag, the former FC Robo player shared her excitement in a post-match interview, a video on the club’s official website.

She said, “It was a very good feeling, especially for the team. Great effort from the girls tonight. It was a very tough time, very good team as well. It was a bit difficult for us, but we were able to get one point, which is a big plus for us.

“They are one of the teams in the play-off spot, and at this point any point we are able to get is very important to us. They are not an easy team to play; in the last 15 minutes, they are at home; they needed to win; they needed a goal; they had to push forward; and I also feel that during the last 15 minutes we had opportunities as well.

“Actually, with the mentality of the team, we knew we had to get behind the ball, and we also knew we had to counterattack when we had the opportunity to do that.

“So, I think that is a great mentality; that is a great one from the girls physically and mentally.”

The former Arsenal and Liverpool star has rendered two assists, and she will look to take her tally notches higher when Bay FC host Orlando Pride for their game week 21 fixture at PayPal Park City, San Jose, California, on September 21.
