Victor Osimhen can’t wait to open his Galatasaray account after rendering three assists in as many matches since joining the Turkish Super Lig champions on loan from Napoli earlier this month, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 25-year-old Nigeria striker let out his frustrations after assisting Yunus Akgün for the second goal in their UEFA Europa League Game Week 1 3-1 win at RAMS Park, İstanbul, on Wednesday night.
“Unfortunately, my goal was counted as an own goal again. My goal will come. The important thing is for Galatasaray to win,” said the former Lille player after the match.
Despite not having registered his name on the scoresheet, the African Player of the Year is the biggest thing to have happened to Galatasaray in recent years, with the management content with his general play.
His impressive run has seen clubs like Juventus and Chelsea nosing around Istanbul and hoping to pounce during the winter transfer window. But Galatasaray look to keep the player even beyond the season-long loan.
“There is no possibility of Osimhen leaving the team in January. We are thinking of having him play with us next season as well. He will remain a Galatasaray player until June. The player demonstrates in every match how attached he is to the club. People play where they are happy. He has a contract with us until the end of the season,” the club’s vice president, Ibrahim Hatipoglu, dismissed rumours of a potential January departure for the Nigerian striker.
“We should rather think about how to continue with him in the coming seasons. It makes no sense to discuss whether he will leave during the mid-season break,” he added.
