A lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Technology, Moro, Osun State, Dr Nsikak Akpan, on Friday, unveiled plans to embark on a 150-hour marathon lecture in a bid to set a new world record for the longest lecturing hour.

Speaking with journalists on the campus of the college, Akpan said his application with the reference number: 240427100506lml sent to the Guinness World Records for him to embark on the 150-hour longest marathon lecture has been approved.

Akpan also said an Indian Prof. Arvin Mishra currently holds the crown of the longest marathon lecture record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, which was set in the year 2014.

Giving further details about the event schedule to commence on Monday on the campus of the college, Akpan gave the theme of the lecture as “Relationships between man’s environment and health,” adding that students of the college would be present to listen to his lecture.

“The quest, which is set to begin on Monday, September 23, is expected to end on the 30th of September inside the Foreign Links College campus, Moro, Osun State.

“I am attempting to set a new Guinness record for the longest lecture marathon 10 years after it was achieved in India.

“The quest is aimed at giving back to the academic environment as I attempt to tell the world the consequences of abusing the environment by man,” Akpan said.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that Guinness World Records had confirmed Samson Ajao’s 215 hours, which he achieved in Osogbo between May 6 and 15, 2024, as the longest marathon reading aloud.
