The Timi of Ede in Osun State, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, and the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, have resolved to collaborate to improve security of lives in and around the campus of the institution.

Speaking while receiving members of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the institution, led by Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, in his palace on Wednesday, Oba Lawal said house owners in the community would be invited and briefed on their roles in the security measures that would be applied henceforth.

Oba Lawal said house owners that suspect any of the tenants, especially students, of engaging in secret cult activities, should report and that such students would be invited and counselled for him or her to shun the illegal acts.

According to him, if that measure fails to dissuade the students, the landlord should eject him or her from the house.

“Some of these students are living in our community. If you are a member of a cult group and you take an accommodation and we got to know of your involvement, we will call the landlord to eject such students, if they refuse to denounce cultism.

“We will invite all the landlords here. If you suspect any student that takes accommodation of being a member of a cult group, we will call such a student and counsel him or her. If he or she fails to yield to our advice, then we send him or her out of that building,” Oba Lawal said.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the polytechnic’s Governing Council,  Olaiya, said security situation on campus had improved significantly and appealed to residents of the host community of the institution to collaborate with the management to further secure lives and properties of both the students and members of staff.

He said, “I have information that some cultists are still lurking around the corner, and like I did ask Kabiyesi to assist us, we would like Kabiyesi to also help us in seeing to it.”

Olaiya, who stated that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the institution and the community, assured that “the institution is going to improve on the corporate social responsibilities to ensure that the community feels the impact of the institution even more than it has been before.”
