Otis revealed that there was no plan for him to become world champion after winning Money in the Bank.

During the pandemic, Otis shocked the world by becoming Mr Money in the Bank. The match that took place in WWE headquarters and ended on the roof. Both the men and women fought simultaneously for their respective briefcases.

The men’s match ended in AJ Styles and Baron Corbin fighting over the contract at the top of a ladder. As the briefcase slipped out of their hands, Otis was there to catch it in mid-air, winning the match.

Otis appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, where has was asked about the plans following Money in the Bank victory.

However, the former Mr Money in the Bank revealed that WWE had no plan for him to cash in the briefcase.

“I don’t think there was a plan, no. Uh, I don’t, I don’t—it was kind of a shocker because the whole day we couldn’t get up on the roof for the longest time due to COVID stuff. We were just sitting, sitting, sitting.”

It was just a long day. Then finally, Jamie [Noble] was like, ‘You thinking King Kong up there?’ I go, ‘King Kong?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, come with me.’ Jamie’s all fired up, climbing the ladder in his cowboy boots. I’m like, ‘Babe, I’m not going up there; I hate heights. That’s why I only go on the second rope.’ But he’s like, ‘Get your ass up here, come on!’ So I did. And man, it was a long way down, it’s headquarters, babe.

Then Jamie goes, ‘Alright, take a picture of you. Take your shirt off and roar.’ I’m like, ‘Really? Roar like King Kong?’ He says, ‘Yeah.’ So, I’m like, ‘Okay,’ roaring after sitting for 14 hours.

Otis Said The Winner Was Decided On Who Was Healthy

Otis continued, and revealed that testing for COVID made a big impact on who won the match.

He added that he never expected to win the WWE Championship. However, Otis did his best to make it as good as he could be during his time as Mr Money in the Bank.

“Suddenly, you’re told you’re going to win it, and I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ But I think everything was like, again, about who’s healthy and who’s not. Testing for COVID was a factor, so there were a lot of changes.”

[On if he thought he’d be a world champion] “My brain doesn’t work that way. Instead, I’m thinking, ‘How can I make this bigger than it can be?’ It’s tough without the crowd because you’re not getting that live reaction, only online or from the bosses.”

“We did a few things, like the Otis court case with Miz, and that was a hilarious day. Morrison and I were in a room together, and you can’t do that—Morrison gets excited, then I get going. Next thing you know, they’re like, ‘Guys, we’ve got to get this done.’ Teddy Long gets hot, and you know something’s wrong when Teddy says, ‘Alright, boys, shut the hell up!'”
