Production has officially begun on the long-awaited Outlander: Blood of My Blood, an Outlander prequel series that follows the parents of both Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp.
Yes, you read that right. As part of the start of production note, it was revealed that the 10-episode series will explore the lives and relationships of Jamie’s parents as well as the origin story of his devoted wife’s parents.
For Jamie, his mother Ellen MacKenzie will be portrayed by Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter) and his father Brian Fraser will be brought to life by Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest, Flowers and Honey). For Claire, her parents Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp will be played by Hermione Corfield (The Road Dance, We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), respectively.
The series, which will be shot in Scotland, will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both series.
In addition to Roberts, Ronald D. Moore will also executive produce along with Maril Davis. Moore and Davis developed Outlander for TV, under their production banner Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also EP and Diana Gabaldon, the author behind the book series that inspired the hit Starz show, will serve as a consulting producer. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Slater is repped by The Artists Partnership UK and Untitled US; Roy is repped by Patrick Hambleton Management (London) and Cohesive Entertainment Group (L.A.).
