Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves has heaped praise on Arsenal ahead of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich by comparing them to Manchester United’s 2008 team that dominated Europe.

It feels ridiculously premature to compare Arsenal to a European Cup-winning side. Still, all of the major broadcasters are guilty of bigging up matches, even when what you are listening to is beyond belief.

Hargreaves has been impressed by Arsenal’s performances in the Premier League this season, claiming Mikel Arteta has developed a side with ‘no weakness’ for the first time in 10 years.

The Gunners hosted a struggling Bayern Munich side at the Emirates and managed to equalise in the 76th minute to force a 2-2 draw. However, speaking before the game, Hargreaves was convinced Arsenal had a strong chance of beating Thomas Tuchel’s side in the Champions League semi-finals.

Hargreaves, 43, previously helped United to European success 16 years ago alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and explained three similarities between Sir Alex Ferguson’s last great side and Arsenal.

“This Arsenal team reminds me of the United team we played on. Well, we were very lucky,” Hargreaves told TNT Sports, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“We kind were blessed. We had everything we could play the possession game, we could out score you. Defensively, we were very good. Good on set pieces.

“This Arsenal team for the first time in a decade. I don’t think they have a weakness. They can play in any style and I don’t think they’ll fear Bayern Munich.

“So I think they can be confident and they’re the better team right now. I think looking at those teams, I think they’ll probably show it.

“I think they’ll be full of belief and I think this crowd is in for a treat tonight,” he added
